HostProbe expands domain coverage across Europe

HostProbe has combined multiple discovery sources into a European corpus containing more than 82 million identified domain names across 30 TLDs.

HostProbe is expanding its domain discovery and infrastructure mapping across Europe.

Following the growth of our global corpus to 668,247,904 identified domain names, we have combined and deduplicated multiple discovery sources for European country-code domains and .eu.

Our current European domain corpus contains:

Together, these datasets contain 82,120,416 identified domain names.

These are historical discovery counts rather than estimates of current registrations. Some names may no longer be registered or resolve today. HostProbe keeps the distinction between domains we have identified and domains we currently observe as active.

Why combine multiple sources?

No single discovery source gives us the whole picture.

.eu provides a particularly striking example. Two independent source datasets contained approximately 3.1 million and 3.4 million names individually. After combining and deduplicating them, the HostProbe .eu corpus contains 5,038,496 unique names.

The same pattern appears across Europe: substantial overlap, but also large numbers of names unique to each source.

That is why HostProbe is building a permanent discovery corpus rather than replacing one domain list with another whenever a newer source becomes available. New discoveries are compared with what we already know and genuinely new names can be added to the corpus.

From domain lists to infrastructure data

Discovery is the first layer. Verification and observation come next.

HostProbe’s probing infrastructure processes these domains to determine which currently resolve and what infrastructure is connected to them. DNS probing provides addresses and nameserver relationships, while HTTP and HTTPS observations reveal another layer of the infrastructure serving those domains.

Over time, this allows HostProbe to build a connected view of European Internet infrastructure: domains, IP addresses, DNS servers, web services and the relationships between them.

The European corpus will continue to grow as additional discovery sources become available.

Europe is now being mapped.
